13 pages, plus title-page, cut down from larger sheets of manuscript paper (c.15.5 x 27.3cm), the last page originally containing some music in Moscheles's hand, subsequently erased, dated Boulogne, 1 September 1860, some staining to outer pages

Catalogue Note

This attractive work came into being after a memorable visit to Rossini's villa at Passy in the summer of 1860, where Moscheles's son Felix was a house guest. Rossini had entered into Felix's album a little piece for horn which he had entitled "Thème de Rossini suivi de deux variations et Coda par Moscheles père". Moscheles duly composed Rossini's prescribed variations and coda, and requested that the great Italian maestro accept the dedication of the work to him.
