Catalogue Note
Rare: This is the earliest edition of this Dutch treatise recorded by RISM; the original edition is dated 1766 by TNG, but we have not traced any surviving copy. Only later editions are found in Britain.
Hess (1730-1819) was an organist and organ builder from Gouda, and his work deals with keyboard playing in general. In his preface, Hess claims that the first edition was soon sold out, which necessitated this second edition, which he provided with an engraved plate. There has been no copy at auction of any book by Joachim Hess for over forty years.
