Catalogue Note

Rinaldo was Handel's first opera in England (premiered at the Queen's Theatre in the Haymarket, 24 February 1711), whilst on extended leave from the Elector of Hannover.  The present edition dates from the year of the first production, whereas most copies offered for sale nowadays date from the revivals of 1714 (or later).  This was the first edition to include the expanded version of "Vo' far guerra" ("...With the Harpsicord Peice Perform'd by Mr Hendel",  pp.49-52).  The opera also contains one of Handel's most sublime arias, the famous "Lascia ch'io pianga".
