Catalogue Note
Marianne Raschig was the most serious and scholarly twentieth-century writer on hand-reading. She assembled a remarkable collection of over 2,000 hand-prints of famous musicians, artists, writers and scientists in Berlin during the 1920s. Each hand-print was invariably signed by the artist, the most celebrated of which appear in 158 plates in her book Hand und Persönlichkeit. Einführung in das System der Handlehre, 2 volumes in one (Hamburg, 1931). See also lots 325, 334, 348, 368 & 458.
