Catalogue Note

Delle magnificenze di Roma antica e moderna originally appeared in ten books between 1747 and 1761. This edition, put together by Vasi's son Mariano after his father's death, reprints a selection of views from the earlier work, without the text and with some new plates. As RIBA notes, later issues and even individual copies differ quite widely: "it was evidently Mariano's intention for each copy to contain a total of 210 plates, although this total appears to have been made up with whatever prints were to hand, in addition to the numbered core of the work (which was itself somewhat fluid)." This seems to be borne out in this copy, bound in a fine near contemporary binding.
