Catalogue Note
First English translation of volume 1 of Perspectiva pictorum et architectorum. Sturt probably intended to publish an English edition of volume 2 as well, but was discouraged by the problems encountered in producing the present edition. "When it appeared in 1707 [it] was the most elaborate and expensive architectural book ever produced in this country" (Harris, p.372).
