Catalogue Note

The Liber de Concilio was the first book published at Rome by Paulus Manutius, whose press had been established there partly with the support of Cardinal Pole, whom he had known since the 1530s; the two works are often bound together. For details of the 1561 contract by which Paulus was finally brought to Rome to work for the Pope, see Martin Lowry, Facing the Responsbility of Paulus Manutius (Los Angeles, 1995).
