Catalogue Note

Noctes Atticae is made up of twenty short chapters on a range of subjects from philosophy, history and law to literature and grammar. Some earlier Latin and Greek works are known only from this work through Gellius' extensive quotations; it is also the source for the fable of Androcles that is often attributed to Aesop. In turn, Noctes Atticae was cited by Apuleius, Lactantius, Macrobius, St Augustine and others.

This edition is one of only six books printed by Andreas de Paltasichis at his first press between 1477 and 1479.
