Catalogue Note

Editio princeps of Athenaeus's compilation of the banquet conversations of learned men, written in about 200AD, which contains much information relating to food and wine and food etiquette, along with philosophy, literature and medicine. Aldus had planned an edition of this text back in 1498, of which a proof fragment survives. Aldus dedicates this book to the Hungarian Janus Vyrthesi, who had attended Musurus's Greek lectures in Venice.
