Catalogue Note

Known and adored for its untainted beauty, the lotus has always been linked to spirituality and recognized as a symbol of purity. Nguyen Trung features this enchanting flower at the center of his work, illustrating the connotation of spiritual cleansing. The protagonist of Praying illuminates from the background with her light colored dress and soft skin, creating an analogy to the lotus that blooms with perfectly clean petals despite emerging from murky waters. She gently clasps the flower in both hands and gazes at it with kind contemplative eyes, as if she were quietly transferring her thoughts and spirit into the lotus.
