Catalogue Note

Often illustrating subjects in relation to nature and human civilization, Mangu Putra has always been concerned of the environment’s well-being. The large canvas with Abstraksi Ikan brings forth a subject matter that is frequently taken for granted in our daily lives – food. Its composition strategically places the fish in a manner that appear to be either hung up to dry or wrapped in paper, ready to be purchased. The artist’s emphasis on fish at the market illuminates the impact of human civilization versus nature, or what we would call a natural process in the circle of life.
