Condition
Overall good condition with minor surface dirt. Two circular repairs (ca. 2 cm) to her back. A few minor scratches to the surface and a few minor chips to the edges. The index of Venus' proper right hand restored. Very decorative marble in demi nature size.

Catalogue Note
Pietro Barzanti (1842 - 1881) fut un acteur essentiel de la sculpture florentine de la fin du XIXe siècle. Son atelier, connu encore de nos jours sous le nom de Galleria Barzanti (ou Bazzanti), produisit de nombreux marbres d'après l'Antique ou d'après les modèles de sculpteurs contemporains appréciés, tels que Lorenzo Bartolini (1777-1850) ou Johann Heinrik van Danncker (1758-1841). Ces copies étaient destinées aux voyageurs du Grand Tour. La Vénus accroupie est inspirée du modèle Antique, connu par de nombreuses versions, certaines présentant des variantes significatives.
