Condition

Very good condition overall with some minor surface dirt. A few chips to the surface of the plaster. One fissure to the right side of the top frieze. Joints visible inbetween. A few chips to the edges of the frame. Very decorative piece.

Catalogue Note

Menuisier de formation, John Henning se tourna vers la sculpture pour consacrer plus de douze années de sa carrière à la réalisation de maquettes en réduction des frises du Parthénon. Installé à Londres en 1811, il est fortement impressionné par les marbres nouvellement arrivés et exposés, à l'époque, à Burlington House.  Il parvient à obtenir l'accord de Lord Elgin pour le laisser entreprendre ce projet dont, malheureusement, il ne tirera aucun bénéfice commercial.
