Condition
Very good condition overall with very minor wear to the patina consistent with age and handling. Traces of dirt in the crevices. Very minor dents and scratches to the surface. Very attractive piece and subject.

Catalogue Note
Elève de David d'Angers (1788-1856), Pierre Loison réalisa de nombreuses commandes publiques. A Paris, il travailla notamment pour l'Opéra Garnier (La Grâce), l'Hôtel de Ville (Pigalle) et le palais du Louvre (Sapho ; Pandore ; Vénus ; Condorcet ; La Navigation ; L'Histoire et la Vérité ; La Poésie et la Philosophie). Il participa également aux décors de plusieurs églises parisiennes dont Saint-Ambroise et Saint-Roch. De plus, il réalisa deux des frontons du Château de Compiègne et un groupe sculpté pour le palais de justice de Blois (La Justice). Il travailla également à la statue funéraire du duc d'Orléans destinée à la Chapelle Royale de Dreux. Ce sujet fut présenté au Salon de 1863, sous le n° 2454.
