Condition

This work is in very good condition overall. There is evidence of light wear and handling to the edges and sides. All four edges show craquelure to the paint surface, which is inherent to the way the canvas was stretched by the artist. There is no evidence of paint loss. Under ultraviolet light inspection, there is no evidence of restoration. Unframed.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.

Catalogue Note

"A lot of my art is about violence and crime. I also really like shaped canvases. I’ve always loved Ellsworth Kelly, I love all the Brazilians, the Neoconcrete people like Lygia Clark. I always wanted to make these shaped canvas objects but I didn’t want to make a Blinky Palermo with jagged edges; I wanted to make something else. The bullet holes were a good opportunity to have the cultural things that I’m interested in come together with that. It was an experiment to see how you can get pretty." - Nate Lowman
