Condition

This work is in good condition overall. There are artist's pinholes at the corners. There are scattered creases throughout and accretions of paint and charcoal smudges, which appear inherent to the artist's working method. Scattered areas of yellowing to the sheet are presumably the result of the adhesive used to mount the vellum to the canvas. There is a 1 inch tear in the bottom left corner. There is an area in the bottom right corner which appears to have been collaged by the artist. Framed under Plexiglas.

Catalogue Note

"I draw while painting, and I don't know the difference between painting and drawing. The drawings that interest me most are made with eyes closed. In this way...the drawing comes from something deeper. If it didn't sound pompous, I'd call them zen." - Willem de Kooning
