Lucia van der Post, Annabel's, London, p.21, writes of themed nights at Annabel's, 'The Russian fortnight in 1966 was altogether more ambitious. George Galitzine and Mark Birley more or less emptied Paris of Russian singers and Balalaïka players. Gypsy songs were sung until five every morning, vodka and caviar flowed, members were invited to dress "a la Russe" and all waiters wore what George Galitzine deemed to be correct Russian attire...'
