Catalogue Note

There are a profusion of adverts for similar chests which appear in publications like The Army & Navy Stores Catalogues and The Army List Advertiser from the middle of the 19th century. An advert from 1891 for John Allen's company on the Strand; 'Allen's', features very similar two-part chests, we see the same handles, the same deep second drawer and same turned feet, which whilst not definitive when it comes to attributing a maker perhaps link it with Allen's output.
