Catalogue Note

Born Iris Margaret Cutting, The Marchess Origo married Antonio Origo, son of Marchese Clemente Origo, in 1924. They had a Tuscan estate at La Foce, to which they devoted much of their time improving, and there she embarked on a succesful writing career. Her work The Merchant of Prato (1957) is an invaluable study to the city's mercantile history.
