Condition
Original canvas. There are some frame abrasions along the upper edge and a some small spots of paint loss in upper left corner. There is some faint craquelure in the centre of the sky, also a line of craquelure in the mountain in the backround and another which runs across the St Bernard's head. Also two areas of slightly lifting paint in the dog's nose. Otherwise the work appears in good overall condition with some strong passages of impasto.
UV light reveals no apparent signs of retouching.
Held in a gilt plaster frame.
