Description

  • natural pearl, diamond, silver-topped gold
Centring on an oval natural pearl measuring approximately 15.50 - 16.95 x 18.00mm, weighing approximately 35.00 carats (140 grains), within an openwork background set with circular-cut diamonds together weighing approximately 3.20 carats, mounted in silver-topped gold.

Condition

Colour and Clarity: According to SSEF report, the pearl is natural, saltwater pearl, with no indications of artificial colour modification. Please refer to the report for details. The natural pearl weighing approximately 35.00 carats (140 grains) measures 15.50 - 16.95 x 18.00mm. In our opinion, the natural pearl of 18mm size is extremely rare. The natural pearl is of ovoid shape, very light pinkish grey colour, very good lustre, with minor surface blemishes which are not seen unless close check. There are drilled holes on side close to the mount, probably for sewing purpose in the old days. Old-cut diamonds are about J to L colours, SI clarity. Condition: Antique silve-topped gold mount, tarmishing to the silver layer and surface abrasions to the metal, overall in good condition.

Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion. Illustrations in the catalogue may not be actual size. Prospective purchasers are reminded that, unless the catalogue description specifically states that a stone is natural, we have assumed that some form of treatment may have been used and that such treatment may not be permanent. Our presale estimates reflect this assumption.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.
