Exemplaire de premier tirage, à la date du 8 novembre 1907, complet des passages sur la mort de Balzac (dans le chapitre final "Bords du Rhin") qui furent supprimés à la demande de la fille de Mme Hanska, car jetant la suspicion sur la conduite de sa mère en raison notamment des propos de Jean Gigoux, rapportés par Mirbeau (pp. 388-439). Avec l’annonce de l’édition de luxe de 1908, illustrée par Pierre Bonnard.
