Catalogue Note

The serial issue of Trilby in Harper's is lavishly illustrated by du Maurier (not all of these drawings are present in the book edition) and also contains an extra passage of around 1500 words describing a character "Joe Sibley", apparently based on Whistler, and consequently suppressed for the book edition after the painter threatened to sue.
