Catalogue Note

The Other House, the only Henry James novel to centre around a murder, was published on 1st October 1896, in an edition of 600 copies, having previously appeared as a serial in the Illustrated London News the same year. This copy has one of a number of variant advertisements at the end of volume 1 (no apparent priority), comprising 32 undated, unnumbered pages, with the recto of the first leaf advertising Hall Caine's The Maxman.
