Catalogue Note

In this exquisitely rendered portrait, the young Rabbi is posed before a multi-colored Torah curtain, which is embroidered with boldly drawn stylized flowers and leaves. This unusual curtain also appears in Kaufmann's "Young Rabbi from N...", Tate Gallery, London. (G. Tobias Natter, Bilder des Wiener Malers Isidor Kaufmann 1853-1921, Vienna, 1995, illustrated p. 209).

The work is presented in its original Kaufmann frame.
