Ephraim Kishon is one of the world’s most published satirical writers and in Ariel Sharon’s words “one of the cultural giants of our generation.” Born in 1924, Kishon was a bestselling author in Israel, Germany, France, Hungary and Korea. His books have been translated into over thirty-seven languages and have sold over fifty million copies worldwide. Kishon’s Family Stories, his most popular book, is the bestselling book written originally in Hebrew since the Bible.

Kishon’s work spans many art forms; he wrote over fifty satires, novels and plays. Kishon is also considered one of Israel’s premier filmmakers, awarded three Golden Globe awards, and twice nominated for the Oscars. He is a 2002 Israel Prize laureate.

Ephraim and his wife Sara were passionate art collectors, primarily of Israeli and Jewish art. The Reuven Rubin painting offered here comes from their private collection. In 1975, Sara and Ephraim Kishon established The Kishon Gallery in Tel Aviv which quickly became a leading gallery in its field, participating in many art fairs in Europe.
