Catalogue Note

In 1920 Soudeikine emigrated from Russia to Paris, where he worked closely with La Chauve-Souris (The Bat), Nikita Balieff’s touring revue that had been popular in Moscow since its inception in 1906. The show consisted of songs, dances, and sketches, and one of its legacies is the popularization of the jaunty tune The Parade of the Wooden Soldiers. La Chauve-Souris often played at Théâtre de l’Apollo, a music hall located at 20 rue de Clichy in the 9th arrondisment, before moving to New York in 1922.
