Catalogue Note
As James Lord points out in his seminal biography, Alberto Giacometti encouraged Diego Giacometti to sign many of his bronze furniture in order to make a name for himself (James Lord, Giacometti, A Biography, New York, 1985 , p. 332). Alberto's encouragement paid off and from the 1950s onward Diego was recognized as a force of his own in the art world. He would go on to create decorative arts which adorned the Picasso Museum in Paris, the Chagall Museum in Nice and the Fondation Maeght in Saint-Paul-de-Vence.
