Condition
It seems that this work is in more or less perfect condition. The canvas has never been removed from its original stretcher. It is well stretched. The paint layer is stable. There is no damage to the surface or any restoration. Under ultraviolet light, as one would expect some colors show very strongly, particularly the yellows and oranges. There may be one retouching in the leaves in the green color immediately to the right of the girl's head, but this is speculative and very minor. The painting should be hung as is.
The above condition report has been prepared by Simon Parkes, an independent conservator who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
