Condition
The canvas is not lined. There is a thick, milky and unevenly applied varnish which prevents the light from fully penetrating and which causes some areas to fluoresce under UV light. UV examination does however reveal a 10cm-long thin line of retouching to the lower right corner. Otherwise, this work is in overall good condition and there is a lovely thick rich impasto to the white pigments in the face and collar.
