Condition

The canvas is lined. There is a thick varnish through which the UV light cannot fully penetrate but UV examination does reveal some scattered small spots and thin lines of retouching in places, all of which are away from the sitter's face. There are some fine lines of stable craquelure in places. Otherwise, this work is in overall good condition. Colours: overall fairly accurate in the printed catalogue, though the face is slightly warmer in the original.
