Condition

The canvas is not lined and there do not appear to be any signs of retouching visible under UV light. There is some paint shrinkage to the white of the sitter's face, the blue, dark grey and pink pigments and some extremely fine lines of craquelure in places. There is a faint horizontal stretcher-bar mark. Otherwise this work is in overall very good condition. Colours: fairly accurate in the printed catalogue, though lighter and fresher in the original.
