Patek Philippe's Advanced Research team strives to improve the isochronism of mechanical watches employing innovative materials in their pioneering annual calendar in-house movements.  In 2005, the Ref. 5250 was introduced in a limited edition of only 100 pieces as the first series of the advanced research line. With the first model, the firm unveiled with the ground breaking creation of Silinvar escape wheel.  Originally known for its application to information technology, Silinvar is a semiconductor that is significantly lighter than the traditional steel, transmits energy more efficiently and can be shaped more accurately, making it an ideal material for use in watchmaking. Featuring a magnified aperture to the sapphire crystal display back, the wearer can admire the complex and cutting-edge Silinvar elements of the movement with ease.
