Catalogue Note

With a winding key.

The watchmaker John Roger Arnold of 84 Strand, London, son of the famous British watchmaker John Arnold, died in 1943 and Charles Frodsham, who was still establishing himself in the industry at the time, took over the company. Charles Frodsham retained the business address and changed the name to J.R.Arnold and Frodsham (or simply Arnold and Frodsham) to take advantage of the Arnold’s reputation while promoting his own name. By 1858 Charles Frodsham had an excellent reputation and no longer required use of the Arnold name. The company of Charles Frodsham remains in business today and still holds a Royal warrant as supplier of clocks to the British Royal Family.
