Catalogue Note
Reference 5512 was the first Submariner produced by Rolex with protective crown guards. The early models, such as the present one, are very rare to find because of the few examples made at that time with square crown guards. The production started in 1959 with serial number 478000 and the inside case back was engraved with III.59. Therefore we can assume that the present watch bearing serial number 478007 is the 7th produced by Rolex. In 1960, after tests, Rolex replaced the square crown guards with pointed crown guards which were more suited to adjusting the time while wearing diving gloves.
