• jewelled gilt lever movement, bi-metallic compensation balance • gold cuvette with engraved signature • white enamel dial, Arabic numerals, subsidiary seconds, outer minute track • 14k pink gold polished case, engraved monogram to the cover, inscription to the backcase, dial and movement signed

Condition

The movement is running at the time of cataloguing, however it was not tested for the accuracy of time and may need service at the buyer's discretion post-sale. Dial in good condition. Case with light scuffs but overall in good condition. Cover engraved with a monogram surmounted by a crown, back engraved, 'Sarajevo 28. VI. 1914'.

Catalogue Note

This watch bears the emblem of Franz Joseph I (1830 - 1916), Emperor of Austria, Apostolic King of Hungary, King of Bohemia, King of Croatia, King of Galicia and Lodomeria, Grand Duke of Cracow. On the 28th June 1914 in Sarajevo, Archduke Franz Ferdinand, the heir-presumptive was assassinated at the hands of Gavrilo Princip, a Serbian nationalist. This action led to the start of World War I.
