Movement is in working order while cataloguing, but it has not been tested for the accuracy of time keeping and a service might be required at the buyer's expense. Dial in good condition. Case with scuffs throughout and a heavy mark on the band at 9 o'clock. Case probably never polished. Overall in good condition. Production of reference 3940 began in 1986 to succeed reference 3450. This model is considered as a breakthrough in the design of complicated wristwatches. In fact, this is the first ultra slim, self-winding complicated movement with an integrated corrector mechanism that enables owners themselves to adjust individually the four major functions of the watch. The moon-phases, however requires adjustment by a watchmaker every 122 years and 45 days.
The present lot is part of the first series of the reference 3940 which were produced with a silvered dial between 1985 and 1988.
