Catalogue Note

The history of the Portuguese collection dates back to 1936 when two merchants from Portugal, by the names of Rodrigues and Texeira, paid a visit to the International Watch Company situated in the small town of Schaffhausen in Switzerland. Despite the trend at that time for small wristwatches, the two ordered timepieces that would be as large as pocket marine chronometers. In so doing, Rodrigues and Texeira wished to create watches that would be extremely accurate and highly legible, both factors assisted by the size of the watch.
