Catalogue Note
1775 fut la seule Année Sainte du pontificat de Pie VI qui devait mourir en 1799 à Valence lors de son exil imposé par Bonaparte. Pendant de nombreux siècles, le pape devait ouvrir et fermer la Porte Sainte, une des portes permettant de pénétrer dans la Basilique Saint Pierre, au début et à la fin de chaque Année Sainte. A cette occasion, le pape utilisait un marteau et une truelle (cazzuola). Le dessin présenté ici est le projet d'une truelle que Pie VI utilisa l'année de son intronisation en 1775.
