Condition

Illustration is accurate. Case in generally good condition, some old cracks and repairs to the brown tortoiseshell veneers. Nice and deep color of the shell, high quality of brass marquetry. Giltbronze mounts beautifully chased, rubbed and tarnished in places due to age and use. Dial in generally good condition, hair cracks to XII, VII, 60 and 15 plaques, hands replaced. Movement is three train and strikes the quarters on two bells and the hours on a further bell, verge escapement, it is complete and looks as though it would run but may benefit from fresh oil. With pendulum. Large size and imposing look.

Antoine Foullet, ébéniste reçu maître en 1749

Probablement Vincent De Lorme Père, horloger reçu maître 1717

Antoine Foullet (mort en 1775) était le père du célèbre ébéniste Pierre-Antoine Foullet. Son atelier était sur la rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine où il produisit non seulement des caisses de pendules mais aussi du mobilier, comme une commode d’époque Transition conservée au Musée National de Stockholm. Plusieurs projets de ses caisses de pendule sont conservés à la bibliothèque Doucet à Paris.
