Designed as a pug, the two eyes and three thumbpieces set with cabochon rubies, the face decorated with numerous rose-cut diamonds, the nose and mouth further set with calibré-cut rubies, the interior fitted with a dance card holder, coin holders, mirror and two lidded compartments, gross weight approximately 160 dwts, measures approximately 3½ by 4½ inches, with French import mark, one calibré-cut ruby and 11 diamonds missing; circa 1920.
Condition
In good condition with nicely textured gold. Evidence of discoloration to the gold mainly on the chain, and mirror in the interior slightly chipped. The cabochon and calibré-cut rubies range from medium to medium-deep slightly pinkish red, moderately to heavily included. The diamonds are near colorless and decorative in quality. The interior also includes a money clip and a compartment secured with elastic for the purpose of holding cigarettes or a pencil. Bearing a nice heft. Similar design on the reverse in gold. One calibré-cut ruby and 11 diamonds missing.
