The first brooch composed of carved wood decorated with 11 turquoise cabochons, further set with one pearl measuring approximately 6.3 by 5.9 mm, variously-cut rubies and nine rose-cut diamonds; the second carved jet brooch accented by 42 cabochon turquoises; the third carved amber brooch set with six variously-cut sapphires and topped by one round diamond, signed G. Nardi.
Condition
CARVED WOOD: The wood is a dark black with some hints of brown throughout. The smaller turquoise cabochons are a light greenish blue, with some visible matrix throughout. The larger turquoise is a mottled blue-green. The pearl has a silvery gray body color, light rose overtones, medium luster, with a wrinkled and slightly peeled skin. The rubies are decorative in quality. JET: The jet is a dark black with some very minor porosity. The turquoise cabochons range from a light blue to a deep blue-green, with several examples showing matrix and a few with small chips visible under magnification. AMBER: The translucent amber is a medium orangy yellow with some crazing evident on the surface. The sapphires are a deep violetish blue, moderately to heavily included. The diamond is approximately H-I color, VS clarity. With fine metalwork throughout.
