A Regency mahogany and ebony strung three pedestal dining table circa 1820

with three extra leaves, the pedestal with turned baluster and four carved legs on brass caps and castors, with two additional table ends to set up as breakfast table

Overall in fair condition. The surface has a good even colour and the timbers of each leaf are well matched. The leaves display some characteristic undulation consistent with age. One leaf with a crack and small chip. The table has been re-finished, but there are some scratches and marks and some losses to moulding, veneers and stringing. Three of the leaves are displaying signs of water damage to the edges which could possibly be improved from a light re-polish. Ultimately the table may benefit from being entirely refinished according to taste. Patches to the underside of some leaves indicates the existence of an previous support structure and the table tops are now fitted with later brackets and stretchers. The block support of the central pedestal is also possibly later. There is an unusual feature in that the pedestals can slide to support the leaves in different positions as table is extended. The two extensions used to fashion a breakfast table are probably later and are darker in colour. The width of each extra leaf is 64cm., 65cm. and 65cm. respectively.
