Catalogue Note

Ralph Holland attributed this drawing to Tanzio da Varallo, on the basis of comparison with figures in his paintings, and it was catalogued as such in all the exhibitions cited above.  Although the medium is indeed reminiscent of Tanzio, the drawing itself seems less refined in handling and should more probably be seen as the work of a Florentine artist.
