Catalogue Note

As Ralph Holland's notes indicate, another study by Avanzino Nucci for the same composition was sold London, Christie's, 12 April 1983, lot 36.  Both are highly finished studies, but the drawing sold at Christie's is squared for transfer in black chalk, suggesting that it was the final modello for the commission.
