Catalogue Note

The attribution is presumably based on the old inscription on the verso.  Loir was an engraver but little is known of his drawings.  Somewhat better known are the works of his brother Nicolas-Pierre Loir (1624-1679) who works in a style influenced by Charles LeBrun.
