Catalogue Note

Vernet's, at the far end of the Quai Henry IV, was a lively cabaret café facing the harbour in the quarter of Dieppe known as 'au bout du quai' ('at the end of the quay'). Depicting the café beyond viewed from the wings, the present work relates to Au Caboulot Au Bout Du Quai1. Sickert was a regular visitor to Vernet's, and the present work is a previously unrecorded example from the many drawings of the performers and clientele he made there.

We are grateful to Wendy Baron for her kind assistance with the cataloguing of the present work.
