Condition

View in the Winter Garden of Coleorton Hall, Leicestershire The image is fresher in tone and richer in colour than the catalogue illustration would suggest. Painted on a single stable piece of millboard. The paint surface appears to be in good overall surface condition, with no apparent loss of paint visible to the naked eye. Although there is evidence of retouching to the sky visible under a raking light. There is also surface dirt and a mottled varnish overall. Examination under ultraviolet light confirms the presence of the aforementioned retouching and reveals some further very minor old retouching to the leaves i.e. the millboard edge centre left. The aforementioned vanish impedes proper inspection however the picture would appear to be by in large in good untouched overall condition. Offered in a plain unvarnished wood frame with a gilt plaster inlay in good overall condition. Study of the Sedia del Diavolo Temple, Italy, This drawing has remained well preserved. The medium is strong and easily readable and the paper has not discoloured. The sheet has not been laid down.
