John Linnell

The earliest recorded self-portrait by the artist is a drawing done at the age of twenty three which is signed and dated 1815 and remains in the collection of the family. Self-portraits in oil were much later, and besides this portrait probably painted in the 1820's, there is a larger portrait of 1860, painted when the artist was seventy-six in the National Portrait Gallery (inv. no. NPG 1811).
