Catalogue Note

Ralph Holland pointed out that this could be the same model as seen in a drawing from Benno Geiger's collection, exhibited London, P. & D. Colnaghi, Old Master Drawings, 1955, no. 77.  Marina Magrini suggests it could be a front view of the similarly posed figure in a drawing at Princeton, and that they both derive from the pose of the antique statue known as the Borghese Warrior.1
